Geomagic Qualify Enables Graphical Comparisons Between CAD Master Model and Built Part or Object

Geomagic announces the release of a new product. Geomagic Qualify allows for “one-glance” inspections on shop floor; Raindrop also announces improvements to Geomagic Studio in V3.1

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., January 2, 2001— New software called Geomagic Qualify from Geomagic allows automatic graphical comparisons between a CAD master model and the built part or object. Geomagic also announces Geomagic Studio 3.1, the latest version of its software that enables 3D photography applications in manufacturing, engineering, design and new media.

Shop-floor inspectors, technicians and design engineers can use Geomagic Qualify to quickly and easily overlay, evaluate and report deviations between designed and built parts. Inspections can be performed with one click of the mouse and shared with colleagues via automatically generated, web-ready HTML reports. Geomagic Qualify provides accurate comparisons that allow users to comply with even the strictest deviation standards.
Important Geomagic Qualify features include:

• Automatic alignment – Aligns scan data and CAD models automatically for precise comparison.
• IGES import – Integration with Geomagic Studio allows point data to be compared with IGES files.
• Tolerance and deviation computation – Users can specify the level of tolerance for comparisons and report deviation results in minute detail.
• Color mapping of results – Deviation levels are displayed graphically using customized colors. Users can see the whole range of deviation for a detailed analysis or produce a “go/no-go” display of green and red for one-glance decisions on the shop floor.
• Annotations – Comments or deviation data can be added to a Qualify model for use in reports and presentations.
• Automated report generation – HTML reports can be generated automatically with a single click. Reports can include multiple, user-defined and annotated views; numeric details; VRML objects; and notes and conclusions. They can also be displayed in printable formats.

  New in Geomagic Studio 3.1

  Geomagic's latest version of Geomagic Studio provides easier control of color and automatic alignment of templates. Users can now adjust the brightness and contrast of color models within Geomagic Studio. Smaller-sized files can be created by automatically decimating the number of triangles within models without compromising color fidelity, surface integrity or detail. Patch templates within version 3.1 can be fitted automatically into new models. The new features in Geomagic Studio 3.1 further the software's ability to automate the 3D photography process, which entails taking output from 3D scanners, capturing the color, texture and shape of real-world objects, and transforming them into usable models for diverse applications.
