NCEITA names Geomagic private company of the year for 2003
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., November 21, 2003 - Geomagic was named private company of the year in an award ceremony last night sponsored by NCEITA, a non-profit organization serving North Carolina technology companies.
The theme of this year’s awards was “Super Heroes of Technology.” Joan Myers, NCEITA’s president and CEO, says that this year’s winners “are truly super heroes in that they not only survived in extremely tough economic times, but flourished in innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership.”
Ping Fu and Herbert Edelsbrunner co-founded Geomagic in 1996 with the goal of reinventing the way products are designed and manufactured. The company has become the number one brand for mass customization, digital manufacturing, and computer-aided inspection. Over the last five years, Geomagic’s revenues have grown by 935 percent.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and innovation of everybody at Geomagic,” says Ping Fu, company president and CEO. “It is an honor to receive this award from NCEITA, which has done so much to help North Carolina technology companies grow and prosper.”
In addition to the NCEITA award, this year Geomagic has won a national Technical Insights Award from Frost & Sullivan, been named to the North Carolina Technology Fast 50 by Deloitte & Touche, and received $2 million in research funding from the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Advanced Technology Program. Ping Fu has been named as Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for the Carolinas and received the 2003 Entrepreneurial Inspiration Award from North Carolina’s Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED).
