Kreon plug-in for Geomagic software offers real-time scanning visualization

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., September 23, 2004 - A new plug-in developed by Kreon Technologies allows users of Geomagic Studio and Qualify software to visualize real-time processing of a physical object captured by a Kreon Zephyr scanner.

The plug-in is fully integrated with Geomagic Studio digital reconstruction software and Geomagic Qualify computer-aided inspection (CAI) software. It works with all three versions (KZ 25, KZ 50 and KZ 100) of Kreon’s Zephryr scanner, functioning like digital paint software that instantly displays a 3D model of the part as it is captured.

“The plug-in unifies Kreon Zephyr with Geomagic software to bring greater ease of use and performance to 3D scanning applications,” says Thierry Rebillard, general manager of Kreon Technologies. “Instantaneous scanning display and analysis greatly reduces the gap between a physical model and its digital representation for reconstruction and inspection applications.”

Flexibility and speed

The Kreon plug-in supports real-time display for both the Zephyr laser scanner and its integrated touch probe. The laser scanner captures up to 30,000 points per second, while the touch probe isolates individual points with a high degree of accuracy. Once installed, the plug-in is available directly through the Geomagic Studio or Qualify interface, and requires no additional software.

“Kreon is providing a great service to Geomagic users,” says Ping Fu, Geomagic’s president and CEO. “The plug-in makes the transformation from scanning to a digital model nearly transparent, which will speed applications such as rapid design, custom manufacturing on demand, engineering analysis, CAI, and digital inventory of legacy parts.”

The Kreon Zephyr scanner provides further flexibility by enabling users to work with a wide variety of popular axis arms, such as those from FARO, Cimcore, Garda and Romer. It is also compatible with all 3D coordinate measurement machines (CMMs).

The Kreon plug-in for Geomagic Studio and Qualify is available for free downloading on the Geomagic web site: www.geomagic.com/support/downloads/plugin.php3.
