Vice President, Sensable Group
With Geomagic’s acquisition of the Sensable business, my role in the company has changed from Vice President of Product Management to Vice President of the Sensable Group. This means that the focus of my world shifts largely to concentrate on the staff in our new Wilmington, Massachusetts office, the products they produce, the channel partners who sell those products, and the customers they serve.

An explanation
It has been a little while since my last blog on IP issues in the capture-create/modify/make ecosystem and I apologize for that. As many of you may know, Geomagic develops a wide range of software solutions to capture, modify and inspect 3D digital models of physical objects.
Rapid 2012 – a major US annual gathering of people, designers, companies, and providers in the 3D rapid prototyping markets – kicks off today in Atlanta, GA. The event demonstrates the growing trend of how artists and creators are utilizing 3D technologies for their expression, while highlighting leaders in manufacturing who are changing our world using 3D. As an event which, successfully, mingles art with science, the diverse groups of people attending treat it as a unique opportunity to learn from each other.
To many, Martyn Day, editor and co-founder of Develop3D Magazine, would appear to be solely a pithy, witheringly critical expert of 3D CAD and engineering markets. The more you get to know Martyn the less true that statement is.
System integration is where the "rubber hits the road" when we talk about process computerization and automation in the same sentence. Computerization alone for tasks such as 3D part inspection or the analysis and preparation of scans for rapid prototyping may not provide an optimal process conversion from manual to digital.
Automation adds a new level of productivity, a new level of speed, and an integral part of it is communicating the resultant data to and from connected sensors and computing systems. Seamlessly transferring data to and from other formats, other systems, and other applications is crucial. However, there are times where a simple cut and paste will suffice, and although we are working hard to make this easier and GUI driven, GPSE has an answer...
Q: How can I Cut and Paste Feature Properties?

This week, Syazwani Aziz, a student user of Geomagic Studio, posted a question of Geomagic's Facebook page about creating segments in a scanned model.
Let's face it...many of us use Microsoft Excel. It's easy to learn, intuitive, and a proven technology that can organize, process, and present data. Even if you haven't authored a Workbook you probably use someone else's spreadsheet and macro's...maybe not even realizing the power at your finger tips. Well my fellow system integrators...tired of CSV?...tired of XML?...get ready and hang on...and let your Geomagic scripts dynamically update your workbooks...
Q: How can I interact with Microsoft Excel© with Python?
Joan Lockhart, VP of Sales and Marketing, Geomagic Sensable Group
"To advance and apply 3D technology for the benefit of humanity.” That’s my newly acquired company mission statement, and when I first heard it, I will admit, it seemed rather lofty! But in fact, Geomagic’s products are used to support that mission every day. Here’s a great example of how one of our OEM partners is using the Sensable Phantom® force-feedback haptic devices (now owned by Geomagic) to improve the lives of people affected by neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injury.
